I and two others joined Beth Kaestner and her cowboy Catalino for an afternoon horseback ride. The horses were responsive and sure-footed. The ride was delightful, the weather was great and the scenery was spectacular. We rode from the valley floor, through awesome woods, forded the river in several locations, reached the top of the mountains, then returned about 2 1/2 hours later. All in all, it was a great ride and Beth and Cato were great trail guides. I look forward to joining Beth and Cato in the near future.

“We loved our ride! I was a bit hesitant about doing a full day ride – 5 hours of riding – as I haven’t been on a horse since age 12 and I am now age 60. As it turned out I had a wonderful day and want to do it again! What a great way to see rural Mexico including beautiful countryside, quaint villages, chapels and a big beautiful giant shade tree which we ate our lunch under! We passed women doing laundry in the river and men plowing fields with horses. It was an experience I will never forget. Beth and Catalino (the Cowboy) were wonderful. I always felt completely safe and well cared for on the horses which were well trained, obedient and gentle, but responsive and eager to please. My friend who road with me is an experienced horse woman and enjoyed the ride as I did. I highly recommend Leisurely Country Horseback Riding for seeing the real Mexico.

Hola todos! My husband and I went riding with Beth and the cowboys and had the best day. It was a birthday present for my husband’s 60th birthday. I’ve got some riding experience but he’s only been on a horse a few times and he really enjoyed the ride,the scenery and Beth’s guiding (and great sense of humor). After our ride we had the most delicious authentic Mexican lunch in the Campo. The table was covered with dishes of yummy food and fresh juices. After lunch Beth took us to La Gruta – our first trip there. Who wouldn’t love a post ride soak in this beautiful tropical hot springs and garden? And you can get drinks delivered to you poolside! All in all a perfect day! Beth really does a great job and I would recommend her trips to ANY level and age of riders.

As we are preparing to leave Guanajuato this morning we can now say that the BEST part of our week long visit was the wonderful trail ride which we had yesterday with David and Catalino! David was extremely kind and patient with us as he made my wife feel comfortable with her very first approach to a horse. She now of course can not wait for our next trail ride, which will indeed be at your ranch with relatives whom we plan on inviting. The views of the canyon are beyond description and breathtaking. Our photos take us back to those moments with each viewing. The side notes by David along the trail ride made it even more interesting. And just when we thought we’d had the best day this past week we get a greater surprise and treat with the BEST meal we’ve had all week, and I sincerely mean that, having been to many restaurants all week. Those stuffed peppers were fantabulous for I ate THREE of them along with the other side dishes! All in all Beth my wife and I would like to express our many thanks for such a wonderful trail ride. She will be talking about her first trail ride ever to friends and relatives for a long time I assure you. We will be returning once again soon. Thank you for all your help with the arrangements and prompt e-mail replies. If you, Catalino or David are ever in the Houston area please do let us know for our home is your home!

My friends and family have gone riding with LEISURELY COUNTRY HORSEBACK RIDES several times. It is perfect for anyone who wants to see the surrounding country side of SMA and do it at your own pace. Within less than 30 minutes from SMA you can be in the campo riding. The horses are gentle and well-trained, the sites are spectacular (canyons, 16th-century chapel ruins, quaint villages,Savino-ancient huge tree, and amazing views). The rates are very reasonable and it is perfect for people who are not expert riders.

“A must do! This was definitely a highlight of my trip to San Miguel. We did the half day excursion on 10/30/12 and it was perfect. We were led by Beth and a great cowboy (darn I forgot his name!) on a beautiful tour of the Mexican countryside. “I can’t begin to say enough about the horseback riding adventure we sent our daughter and six year old granddaughter. We were unable to accompany them due to my recent eye surgery and my husband’s back. We were a bit concerned sending them off alone. Beth picked them up at our door and proceeded to give them one of their best memories of their visit to SMA. The six year old was given her own horse and Vacaro to lead her. By the end of the ride, she felt so comfortable on her horse, her lead rope was no longer necessary. Older kids were led apart to canter and gallop, leaving the younger or more timid to enjoy their ride through the gorgeous countryside at a more leisurely pace. Following the ride a incredible Comida was served Family Style. When Beth brought them back to our house they were all smiles. “Horseback riding at a reasonable cost! Four house guests and I went on a half-day ride with Beth Kaestner. She picked us up at the house, took us to a ranch in the direction of Leon, and with three cowboys led the four of us on a thrilling ride through the campo. You just can’t see the campo better any other way. Beth and the cowboys were kind, efficient, and helpful (and safe!), and their pleasure at sharing the beauty was palpable. The horses are well trained, gentle, and sensitive to the reins. We went up and down hills,through wet and dry streambeds, past cows, bulls, goats, pigs and of course barking dogs. Halfway through we stopped at a place where we could buy things to drink and snacks for cheap. At one point we overlooked the Presa and San Miguel from what must have been 1,000 or 1,500 feet higher than the Parroquia. The ride itself is about 2.5 to 3 hours, more in our case yesterday because I didn’t gallop like the others did and so slowed us down, but no one made me feel bad about that. The campo at twilight is extraordinary.”
